Christ Supported by Two Angels by Giovanni Santi

Giovanni_Santi_-_Christ_supported_by_two_angels

This photo was painted by Giovanni Santi and if I’m not mistaken, this painting was inspired after Jesus’ crucifixion . The painting clearly shows Jesus. His palms are bleeding and has a hole in them, he is crowned with thorns, he is naked, and we can clearly see, that the lower right part of his body is bleeding. There are two girls supporting him and they look sad. I chose this painting because when I was scrolling and looking for a picture to describe, looking for a painting that would talk to me and inspire me, this painting caught my eye. The painting tells me that Jesus, even if it took him risking his life, sacrificed himself for our sake. The hole and blood in Jesus’ arms was from his crucifixion, when he was nailed into the cross. Before he carried the cross, he was scourged at the pillar and it caused the bleeding in the lower right part of his body. We can see that his body is physically fit, and for me, it shows that Jesus is strong enough to have the courage to sacrifice himself because now a days, we, people are being selfish, we only think of ourselves and nothing else but ourselves. The two girls are supporting Jesus, they look sad and filled with compassion because maybe, they feel guilty for the sins that they made, and these girls represent people, who up until now, look up at him. Jesus’ nakedness represents his purity in spirit and in heart. Jesus loves us dearly that he sacrificed himself for our sake and we should be grateful and treasure what he has done for us.
